FG Library Products is delighted to announce the launch of its comprehensive NEW overview brochure - The Complete Solution. Essential reading for anybody planning a new library Project
Library at Peter Symonds College, Winchester
Background
Background: The Ashurst Centre is a key resource for Peter Symonds College providing study facilities and information from a wide variety of different sources. These include over 17,000 Books, 400 DVDs, Journals, Newspapers, CD-Roms and Online Resources. There are two bookable IT suites and two open access suites and the building is fully 'wireless enabled'.
As a new build we were able to approach the library almost as a blank canvass and working closely with both the college and the architect we were able to devise a library that is modern, inspiring and visually stunning.
FG Library Products were actually commissioned to work on two libraries in the Ashurst Building, the main library resource centre and the smaller careers library.
The Challenge
The Challenge: The challenge facing FGLP was to devise two libraries that were light, airy and spacious and very much in keeping with the dynamic spaces available.
Clearly differentiated working areas and a cohesive co-ordinated approach across the two libraries was essential as was the need to provide a resource that was appealing and functional to both staff and students alike.
Our Solution
Our Solution: Beech was chosen as the main material for the library. It's warm clean lines & surfaces being ideal to convey the modern, light and airy nature of the building, maintaining the required visual appeal. Beech was utilised throughout the library across all furniture. Stainless steel and blue were chosen as the secondary colours, the three elements combining perfectly to produce a stunning visual effect.
The different work areas provide a distinct yet harmonious feel to both libraries which remain an invaluable asset to the college and which are popular amongst both staff and pupils alike.
